LAFD Fireboat Tour May 14th

Thanks to our friends at the Los Angeles City Fire Department, there will be an SCMA tour of LAFD Station 112, including Fireboat 2, in the L.A. Harbor on Sunday May 14th beginning at 10:00 AM.

Station 112 is home to LAFD's newest Fireboat, Boat 2, the Warner Lawrence, the most powerful fireboat in the world.

There will be a very limited number of spots available for this tour. Therefore, this tour will be limited to SCMA Members only - NO Friends, Spouses, Children, or Guests.

IF YOUR NAME IS NOT SHOWN IN GREEN ON THE MEMBERSHIP ROSTER ON THE CLUB'S WEB PAGE, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO GO ON THIS TOUR! (This is a no-so-subtle reminder to those who have not renewed their membership yet!)

We anticipate that more people will want to go on this tour than we have room for. To make it fair for everyone, we will collect the names of all members interested in attending and will conduct a raffle at the May 10th meeting.

You can put your name into the raffle at the SCMA meeting on April 12th or May 10th, or by sending an email BEFORE MAY 10TH indicating that you want to go on the tour to: SCMA@SoCalScanner.com.

New Ham Repeater for SCMA Use

449.700 MHz - PL 131.8 Hz - W6NVY Mt. Wilson

Members of the SCMA who are Amateur Radio Operators are encouraged to use our new frequency and repeater on Mt. Wilson. From now on, the SCMA will make this open repeater their new home for Tuesday night nets, breaking news notifications, and general "ragchewing." SCMA members should program this new frequency into their radios and use it for club purposes as soon as possible.

Located with all of the television transmitters for the Los Angeles area, Mt. Wilson provides excellent coverage for L.A. and Orange Counties along with some coverage into Ventura, San Bernardino and most of "the Southland."

As of March 1st, please do not use the 446.260 repeater without permission from it's owners, W6NVY or N6CIZ. This is a private repeater and plans are in the works which would not fit into using it for the SCMA.

The SCMA thanks Rich, N6CIZ and Gary, W6NVY for making Amateur Radio repeaters available to the Association's members.
